Mike believes technology access and knowledge can be a great tool in creating change, expanding influence, enhancing impact and drive sustainability. He has a great understanding of general ecology and biological sciences with an innate understanding of marine ecosystems, coastal forests and concepts of ecosystem connectivity and is conversant in fisheries certification process - knowledgeable in Marine Stewardship Council fisheries standard and possess technical expertise. Mike is trained and possess skills in assessing community vulnerability and capacity to climate change with a bias towards fisherfolk, farmers and pastoralists. He has a clear understanding of resource management and governance. Mike is a member of the regional IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG) 2017 – 2020, in 2018 he was appointed as a member of the IUCN Expert Assessment Group on Green Listing (EAGL).
Prior to joining CI in 2018, Mike was a Marine Projects Manager, WWF Kenya. Mike holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from the Kenyatta University and Master of Science Ecological Marine Management (ECOMAMA) from Vrije Universitiet Brussel (VUB), Brussels, Belgium. He is a trained scuba diver and is passionate about natural resource management.
