The Paris Agreement on climate change is based on an enhanced transparency framework for tracking and reporting the progress of existing and future country commitments to addressing the phenomenon, with built-in flexibility included for  non-Annex 1  countries that are deemed most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

On November 6, 2018, the Vital Signs program of Conservation International in partnership with the Africa Innovations Institute (AFRII) and the government of Uganda convened stakeholders to discuss the preliminary results of an analysis of some of Uganda’s key natural areas and their role in realizing the country’s sustainable development and climate action targets.

October 3, 2018—Conservation International’s Vital Signs program and Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment (MoWE) have launched a project to strengthen the country’s institutional and technical capacity to track and report on its progress in achieving its targets against climate change in line with the Paris Agreement.

Conservation International in RIC2018: Space Science for Sustainable Development

Conservation International actively took part in both the pre-conference training and the Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development International Conference (RIC2018) held at Nairobi between 12th and 17th August 2018. The theme of the conference was “Space Science for Sustainable Development” The Cabinet Secretary for Lands Farida Karoney presided over the opening of the event.

On July 26th 2018, Conservation International Vital Signs Programme organized a partner’s meeting at the Holiday Inn Hotel, in Dares Salaam. The meeting discussions centered on how data science tools can drive sustainable development, and  increasing the application of Vital Signs tools (Resilience Atlas, and Trends.Earth) to guide policy and practices towards increased sustainable production in Tanzania.

The Vital Signs monitoring system has been collecting and integrating data in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Ghana; to provide decision support tools to policy makers, businesses and farmers to influence development in a way that protects the environment, while also improving human wellbeing.

On 26th June 2018, Conservation International (CI) through its Vital Signs Program joined in the launch of Uganda’s National Determined Contribution Partnership Plan.
