COP 26 Side Event: ShareFair on Geospatial Tools and Applications for Climate Investments

Introduction
The international Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has organised a ShareFair during the COP26 as a platform for IFAD and its grantees to showcase and learn from each other on geospatial tools used for climate and agricultural investments. Conservation International’s (CI) Vital Signs Program was selected as a show case in its partnership in the Resilient Food Systems Program.
Ecosystem resilience is an important ingredient in ensuring Resilient Food systems (RFS) in sub–Saharan Africa. Vital Signs is coordinating the program’s component on monitoring and assessments, and particularly to enhance capacity and provide information to track environmental indicators. Presentations
1. Trends.Earth – tool for tracking land change – Presented by Tom Kemboi (Bio)
Tom is CI Africa Field Division’s Remote Sensing Expert. He will present the Trends.Earth, an open-source tool that was developed by CI and partners. It is recognized as a tracking and reporting tool for land degradation by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The Vital Signs has applied Trends.Earth to assess and monitor land degradation in the RFS project sites and has trained country stakeholders how to use it.
2. Resilient Food Systems Global Environment Benefits baseline report – Presented by Everline Ndenga (Bio)
Everline is CI’s Program Manager for the Food Security & Resilience Project. She will present the baseline report prepared by Vital Signs for the RFS Program to help in tracking progress towards ecosystem resilience. This information was collected using CI tools Trends.Earth, the Vital Signs, and the Resilience Atlas. The presentation will highlight key baseline status of the main environmental benefits expected to be generated by the Program.
